Nederland heeft te veel stikstof in het milieu, en dat is ook slecht voor de volksgezondheid. Met haar beleid tegen mestoverschotten en luchtverontreiniging wist de overheid in voorgaande jaren de situatie wel te verbeteren, maar die goede ontwikkeling lijkt te stagneren.
"De Gezondheidsraad heeft zich over de mogelijke effecten van reactief stikstof op de Nederlandse volksgezondheid gebogen.Daarnaast is beoordeeld in hoeverre de volksgezondheid gebaat is bij het terugdringen van de hoeveelheid reactief stikstof in ons land.
Too much nitrogen is present in the Dutch environment, having a negative impact on human health as well. Governmental policy regarding manure surplusses and air pollution did improve this situation, however this process appears to have stagnated in recent years.
"The Health Council of the Netherlands examined the potential effects of reactive nitrogen on Dutch public health. It is also evaluated to what degree public health would benefit from a reduction in the amount of reactive nitrogen in our country.
